Excellent area to live, very close to subway. I stayed for 8 days and had a good time, most important is that it's value for money. Its an old building but clean. The staff is very unfriendly, don’t expect a smile or them saying hello to you. They will follow your instructions but they are the last people you want to talk to have any general conversation. I was using shared bathroom, and the there was no water in washbasin despite of reporting and reminding it was never fixed.
The location of the hotel was good, only a few minutes walk to the 79th St Metro station, and there are also shops and restaurants nearby. The wifi worked brilliantly in my room.
The noise was a problem, firstly the plumbing, when someone from another rooms uses the shower or flushes the toilet there is a huge thunderous noise coming from my bathroom, its like they are in my bathroom. Also I could hear everything outside, the talking when someone walks past, or when they open the door. On one occassion I had to turn my TV volume up very high to drown out the two women who decided to have a 15minute conversation outside my door.
Room was small but nice although furniture and paint on the walls are very old, very clean, excellent cable tv, good and safe location 5 min walk to the west side of central park, subway one block away..
Room was dark and staff was not very helpfull, guy on the information desk did not know to tell me how to get on the east side of the central park, take note that on the check in you will be asked for 200 dollars deposit...
The single room with shared bathroom was tiny and not as advertised. i had to upgrade the room at significant cost.
Really good location and grrat value for money
The staff was super nasty, but we didnt care, as we never spoke to them. Dont ask them for help or recommendations on shows or restaurants, they dont feel they owe that to their customers...plus they dont have a clue... Keep your expectations low
I've had a great time staying at this Hotel. I would Recommend. Cheers
One of the guys at the front desk wasn't so nice. I mean the oldest guy, the other ones were just great.
Location is very good, close to subway and buses. Frendly staff. Value for money.
Some days bathroom was not very clean. I would recommend to use your own shampoo, not hotel's one.
Clean room every single day,tv,hair dryer.
Provided the essentials adequately for a week long trip to New York, small room, but that didn't matter greatly as I was out and about all day, and the enormous and quiet lobby area was a space where one could read a book or newspaper which compensated somewhat. Internet worked a treat on my laptop as they provided a broadband cable for my room, which was a big plus, as in my experience there are always reception problems with WiFi systems in most hotels.
It's on the Upper West Side, very close to the Central park and in a walking distance to Times Square (cca 15 - 20 min), near the subway, very safe area.
It's very old and it should needs some renovation.
My room was too tiny and equipment was very poor, no desk, no wardrobe and a horrible, unusable cupboard. It hasn't been vacuumed during my whole stay. Toilets and bath were cleaned daily but very lightly and the toilet drain remains blocked a day and a half despite I urged the guy at reception several times. The corridor was quite noisy and it's carpet needs to be changed. I wouldn't recommend it unless you just need a budget place to sleep in at a reasonable walking distance from Time Square, you're not far from a dormitory experience there.
the location is reasonably convenient and the room was clean. the cleaning staff were very thorough and attentive.
Easy access to downtown. Small kitchenette facility was very good, especially if you are with a young family.
Everything was great - except the unfriendly, bold receptionist!
I like the location of the place. It's literally two blocks away from the subway and about 15mins away from Times Square. Though the room was small, it was comfortable and nice for a cheap hotel. There were many tv channels and also the availability of WiFi so that you can continue to remain connected and entertained throughout your trip. There is also the availability of a kitchen if you wanted to cook.
Our room door was left open twice by the hotel staff and when we made this known to the front desk, there were two of them who weren't so helpful with the process and in ensuring that it didn't happen again and hence, the unfortunate event happened again. I guess you could say that the staff weren't exactly very friendly except for one named Anthony who was really good. Another thing was that the house keeping was rather slip shod in their work. Many a times, we found old bedsheets thrown in some corner or too few towels given but at least nothing was taken from our room as we did buy a lot of things.
